The Road to the Future

I came across an article the other day that I think is worth mentioning.  In St. Louis, Missouri a company called Innoventor developed an asphalt binder made from hog waste.  Immediately I thought of at least a dozen jokes and puns that I’m sure have already been said.  On the other hand, I thought it was very interesting.  Basically, the company has developed a way to convert swine manure into a bio-oil.

So often it seems like “going green” is more of a marketing tool than anything.  Why are so many companies having their employee’s be LEED certified?  I think it’s so they can sell a potential client and not to help the environment.  The end result is still the same (trying to make money), but the reasons are different.

More needs to be done to find alternatives to fossil fuels.  Hopefully this new asphalt will be successful and lead the way to develop other alternative materials that require oil.

If you want to check out Innoventor,  they can be found at http://www.innoventor.net
