Theft at jobsites is a problem that won’t be going away anytime soon. With low or no profit margins, a project can’t afford to have equipment and/or materials stolen. A few simple tasks can help reduce exposure to a possible theft. Some considerations to implement on a site are listed below:
- Schedule material deliveries to minimize product not installed at the site
- Do not store equipment no longer needed at the site
- Keep equipment and materials locked up during non-working hours especially high dollar items
- Ensure there is adequate lighting to deter thieves
- All equipment should be clearly labeled with company’s name
- Keep accurate logs of ALL equipment and equipment at the site
- Report ALL thefts to local authorities. They need to know areas thieves are targeting
- Install cameras and/or security systems at the jobsite
This won’t stop all thefts, but it will help deter some thieves or cause them to hit someone else’s jobsite instead of yours!
