I get calls from contractors and owners alike that are having problems on a job. One of the first questions I ask is “What documentation do you have?” The most common response is “We did not think that there would be a problem so we did not keep any records.” A simple jobsite journal that the foremen use daily is an inexpensive tool for a contractor. As an owner keeping a log of the correspondence and even jotting down notes and putting them in a file is a great way to know what and when things happened. You never know what may come and before you get into problems it is best to keep notes and documentation.
Documentation is Key
